4. Runde: Nur noch vier Spieler ohne Punktverlust

Der an Nummer 1 gesetzte Alexander Graf muss sich mit den schwarzen Steinen mit einem Remis gegen Oliver Niklasch von den Stuttgarter Schachfreunden begnügen. Vier weitere Sieganwärter können ihre Siegesserie aufrecht erhalten. Pavel Tregubov, Lubomir Ftacnik, Konstantin Landa und Ian Rogers zieren die Tabellenspitze. Letztgenannter stoppte den Erfolgslauf von Arik Braun. Die Partie des Youngsters gegen den Australier dauerte nur 21 Züge.

5. Runde: Pavel Tregubov alleiniger Spitzenreiter

Nachdem sich Lubomir Ftacnik und Konstantin Landa am 2. Brett (Foto rechts unten) auf Remis geeinigt hatten, nutzt Pavel Tregubov die Gunst der Stunde und übernimmt mit einem Sieg in der Spitzenpaarung (Foto links unten) gegen Ian Rogers mit 5 Punkten die alleinige Tabellenführung. Frank Zeller gelingt es, in einer sehenswerten Partie die neue deutsche Nr.1 Alexander Graf zu besiegen, und liegt damit mit 4,5 Punkten zusammen mit Ftacnik, Landa, Volke, Balinov und Horvath in Lauerstellung.

6. Runde:

Die großen Überraschungen blieben in der 6. Runde aus, an der Spitze nun Tregubov, Landa und Horvath mit je 5,5 Punkten. Arik Braun schlägt IM Ralf Schöne und liegt damit wie auch Frank Zeller weiter auf Kurs für eine IM-Norm.

7. Runde:

Die Partie am Spitzenbrett zwischen Landa und Horvath war schon wieder beendet, bevor sie richtig begonnen hatte, friedlich einigte man sich auf ein Kurzremis, um Kräfte für die entscheidenden letzten beiden Runden zu sparen. Mit seinem zweiten Sieg in Folge kann Ian Rogers wieder zum Führungstrio Tregubov, Landa und Horvath aufschließen. Es folgen 10 Spieler mit einem halben Zähler Rückstand, die alle noch Chancen auf den Gesamtsieg haben.

8. Runde: Frank Zeller sichert sich IM-Norm und wird Internationaler Meister

Konstantin Landa besiegt in der vorletzten Runde den Australier Ian Rogers und rückt mit einem halben Punkt Vorsprung an die Tabellenspitze. Das bedeutet, dass Landa in der letzten Runde nur ein Remis benötigt um vorne zu bleiben. Dabei muss er sich den Siegerscheck vielleicht mit weiteren punktgleichen Spieler teilen. Sollte er gewinnen ist er alleiniger Turniersieger.

Ein Württemberger hat ebenfalls Grund zum Feiern: Frank Zeller (Foto) sicherte sich durch ein Remis gegen Großmeister Philipp Schlosser (Baden-Baden) eine IM-Norm. Da er nur noch eine benötigte ist er damit Internationaler Meister! Die Schachfreunde Deizisau gratulieren!

9. Runde: Konstantin Landa und Lubomir Ftacnik teilen sich den Sieg

Man musste kein Prophet sein um das Remis zwischen Konstantin Landa und Joszef Horvath hervorzusagen. Beide sicherten sich dadurch gute Preisgeldränge, Erstgenannter sogar den geteilten Sieg. Nach fast sechs Stunden harter Arbeit bezwingt die slowakische Nummer 1 GM Lubomir Ftacnik den ungarischen GM Ivan Farago und schließt zu Konstantin Landa auf.

Pavel Tregubov riskierte mit schwarz gegen den schweizer Großmeister Vadim Milov alles, um ebenfalls an die Spitze zu kommen. Es war fast zu viel. Am Schluss musste er um das Remis kämpfen.

Nach Feinwertung ist Konstantin Landa (Foto) Sieger des 5. Internationalen Neckar-Open 2001. Er bekommt wie der punktgleiche Lubomir Ftacnik ebenfalls 2.500 DM.

Beste Mannschaft wurde der frischgebackene Aufsteiger in die Bundesliga, die Stuttgarter SF (Besetzung: Volke, Zeller, Niklasch und Gabriel) vor dem Ausrichter SF Deizisau.

Zum Schluss gab es noch eine gute Nachricht für Oliver Niklasch. Er erfüllte ebenfalls wie sein Teamkollege eine IM-Norm. Für Niklasch war es jedoch erst die erste Norm.
