Weltmeisterschaft: Kasparov - Ponomariov

Von der FIDE gesetzte Deadline überschritten

In einer Pressekonferenz des FIDE-Präsidenten Illjumzhinov wurde die Stornierung des Matches Kaspaarov - Ponomariov verkündet. Stattdessen wurde vorgeschlagen:

Nach der K.-O.-Weltmeisterschaft im Dezember 2003 spielt der Sieger gegen Kasparov. Anschließend erfolgt ein Match zwischen dem Gewinner des o.a. Kampfes gegen den Sieger aus einem Kampf zwischen Leko und Kramnik.

UPDATE ON THE WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

FIDE has announced the World Chess Championship for September/October 2003.

Kasparov vs Ponomariov will take place in Yalta, Ukraine on September 18th (opening ceremony) to October 7th, 2003. The twelve match days are September 19 & 20, September 22 & 23, September 25th & 26th, September 28th and 29th, October 1st & 2nd and October 4th & 5th.

The closing ceremony will take place on Monday 6th October, or in the case of a draw, Monday will be a free day and October 7th, 2003 will be the tiebreak and closing ceremony.

The 20-year endorsement relationship between Saitek & Kasparov is alive and well! This year they released Saitek's new Mephisto Chess Computer Range by Garry Kasparov which has been successful worldwide. Further information can be found at www.saitek.com.

Garry's book "My Great Predecessors", the first of a series is on the bookshelves in the UK and has now hit the bookshelves in America. The first print order is sold out and Everyman Publishing has confirmed the second printing.

The Russian version is selling well and the German, Spanish and Italian versions will follow very soon. Other language versions that are being negotiated are Chinese, Indian, French, Croatia-Serbian and Portuguese.

On July 21st, 2003 "Hexacto Games" agreed to be acquired by "Jamdat Mobile". This included the Kasparov label for PC versions, wireless versions and PDA versions. The Kasparov Chessmate products are already on sale in the US and will be soon be introduced throughout Europe.
